Reaction from Ecuador's President, Rafael Correa: Operation Jaque was "good luck"

The success of the military rescue operation of Ingrid Betancourt and other 14 hostages was more of "good luck than a good decision" said Rafael Correa in an interview published on Monday, July 14, 2008 (Spanish) in the "El Telegrafo", an Ecuadorian newspaper.
"What would have happened if the hostages and the soldiers that went to the rescue would have died, what would the headlines have said?  Thanks god everything went well. But it was more good luck than a good decision", said Correa in this interview in the Telegrafo.
Correa who is still bitter about the previous Colombian operation that eliminated Raul Reyes (the defunct FARC second in command) in 5 miles into equatorian territory also said in his interview that Ecuador is not likely to renew diplomatic ties with Colombia.
The March 1, 2008 Colombian army mission into ecuador and bombing of a established Raul Reyes' FARC camp in Ecuador also yielded several computers that contained thousand of files, some of them incriminating Presidents Rafael Corrrea of Ecuador and Hugo Chavez of Venezuela among others.  This incident resulted in the breaking of relations between Ecuador and Colombia, but also yielded very important information that was used in the rescue operation that liberated political figure Ingrid Betancourt, the three American Hostages, and police and military officials held hostage by the guerrilla group.
